Women's Studies

The University of Maryland, College Park has an extremely strong program, across the disciplines, in Women's Studies. The Women's Studies Department, with ten core faculty and over 80 affiliate faculty, offers graduate courses and a graduate certificate in Women's Studies that can be coordinated with the M.A. and Ph.D. in history. The acclaimed journal, Feminist Studies, is edited in the Women's Studies Department.

Freedmen and Southern Society Project

The Freedmen and Southern Society Project documents the transition from slavery to freedom in the U.S. South based on records from the National Archives. The documents collected by the project are housed in the history department and can be used for research projects.

David C. Driskell Center

The David C. Driskell Center for the Study of the African Diaspora draws together faculty and students across the disciplines and colleges. It sponsors programs on Africa and African diaspora topics that include international symposia, academic conferences, and guest lecturers.

Consortium on Race, Gender, and Ethnicity

The Consortium on Race, Gender, and Ethnicity is a campus-wide program promoting research, scholarship and faculty development on race, gender, and ethnicity. The CRGE, in addition to conducting research and seminars on the intersections of race, gender, and ethnicity, also organizes graduate colloquiums to bring together graduate students from different disciplines.
