           Hilary Jones is Assistant Professor of African History. She received her Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 2003. Her area of specialization is 19th and early 20th century Sénégal with interest in subfields of colonialism, Francophone Atlantic World, family history, urban history and material culture. She is the author of an International Journal of African Historical Studies article, "From Mariage à la Mode to Weddings at Town Hall: Marriage, Colonialism and Mixed Race Society in Nineteenth Century Sénégal." Her current book project focuses on métis identity and society in colonial Sénégal. Professor Jones teaches lecture courses on pre-colonial Africa and West Africa and seminars on Africa and the Atlantic Slave Trade and African Diaspora.
